Male Introspection
Credit where credit is due. I learn from you.
I also learn from the best, yesterday I was asked to touch on this topic.
MALE INTROSPECTION
In my line of work, I’m a Therapist in the Chicago area and I own my Life Coach, often this is most blatant via Imposter Syndrome. I work with both personal and professional scenarios, this is observed especially in males. Men place priority on performance. A man’s identity can often be tied to his work. When this crashes and burns, it can be a crisis of identity. The project, the work, the performance are all things that matter greatly to men.
You wonder if you can do it.
You want to know if you’re an imposter or if you’re actually qualified.
You seek to hide your flaws.
You hope others won’t sense your weakness.
You guard with a shield of exterior toughness to hide inner vulnerability.
If the work life is on the rocks, it affects home life too.
Yet it’s even deeper than the typecast of Imposter Syndrome.
Credit where credit is due. My friend gave me his perspective on this last night, insight on the male mind and the introspection that’s specific to men.
You take stock of your life, what have you done.
You wonder if the things that you do, truly matter.
You compare yourself to others.
You question yourself.
You are introspective.
That’s necessary. You must do that introspection. That’s the real work.
Every man faces his demons, strategizes and learns as he goes.
You are thinking. Introspect.
I’m not a man, I do not know how men think. I will simply suggest that you look for Connection with others. Acceptance and understanding, you need this. Start there.
It’s OK to have a question. We all have our doubts. The struggle is real.
The definition of introspection is self-examination. That’s necessary!
The way that men do this is unique, the weight that they carry and how much they deeply feel. Good men are everywhere, the smart men think about their life, they introspect.
I will simply say to the men, we need you and we are thankful for you!
Live your life, learn as much as you can, strive for more. Introspect.
And most important, enjoy your life.
For your inward struggle, its OK to have questions. It’s also important that you know that you’re enough as you are, that when you’re trying, that’s succeeding.
Accept yourself. Introspect.
